Optimizing Windows XP

Here are some tricks to optimizing windows xp performance.
the efectivity of this trick may be different,
some tips may effect to your computer stability.
so... PROCEED BY CAUTION.
and don't forget to backup your registry first before tweaking installation.

Back up your registry by:
start > run > regedit > file > export
name your registry back up file with yourname.reg and press > ok > done !

A. Disactivating some unneeded Windows Services
because windows is attended to miscellaneous tasks and users, soo. . windows made services
that are not really suggested by the other users.
these windows services need a lot of resource or Ram
by disactivating those services, windows get some boost.

PS:disactivating only services you do not need

disable the services by:
1. click start > Run > Type "services.msc"
2. Double click the services you want to change
3. change startup type into 'Disable"

B. Turning off System restore
System restore is usefull computer default software,
but restore points that are saved by the computer need a lot of space / Ram especially in harddisk.
that is because System restore gradually monitoring the system,
by disactivating system restore, the computer allocates some resources the the other services/tasks.

1. Open Control Panel
2. click Performance and Maintenance
3. click System
4. click System Restore tab
5. click 'Turn off System Restore on All Drives'
6. click 'Ok'

C. Defrag Pagefile
Keeping your pagefile defragmented can provide a major performance boost.
One of the best ways of doing this is by creating a separate partition on
your hard drive that is specialized for your page file,
so that it doesn't get impacted by normal disk usage.
Another way of keeping your pagefile defragmented is to run PageDefrag.
This cool little app can be used to defrag your pagefile,
and can also be set to defrag the pagefile everytime your PC starts. To install:

1. Download and Run PageDefrag,
2. sign "Defrag at next Reboot",
3. click OK
4. Reboot

D. increasing Folders access - by disactivating Last Access Update
if you made much folders and subdirectories,so the access to those directories are running in
slow motion, but by updating time stamp "last access update" in registry, windows get some boost.
Proceed with caution: not for N00bie

1. Start>Run>regedit
2. "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem"
3. right click (on empty screen area),choose 'DWORD Value'
4. make DWORD Value named 'NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate'
5. right click to that new value and choose 'Modify'
6. change > '1'
7. 'OK'

E. Disactivating Microsoft System Sounds
This will Disactivate the sound in booting, shutdown, error and other modes

1. Open Control Panel
2. click Sounds and Audio Devices
3. click tab Sounds
4. Choose "No Sounds" from Sound Scheme
5. click "No"
7. click "Apply"
8. click "OK"

F. increasing booting time
in some windows this service is activated defaultly
but in some windows is not. . just check out bro

1. Start Menu>Run
2. Regedit
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOpt imizeFunction
4. Find "Enable" in right side
5. click "Modify"
6. Choose "Y to enable"
7. Reboot

PS:
you can try Bootvis too, to increasing your computer booting.


G. increasing Swapfile performance
this will increase your system

1. Start>Run
2. "msconfig.exe">ok
3. click "tab System.ini"
4. click plus symbol on "tab 386enh"
5. click new then type "ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1" *
6. click OK
7. Restart

*PS:CAUTION,this tweaking installation will disable save mode and system restore services.


H. Increasing Windows Menu loading

1. Start>Run
2. Regedit>Ok
3. "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\"
4. choose "MenuShowDelay"
5. right click and choose "Modify'
6. Type "100"
you can set menushowdelay in 50 to 150

I. Increasing Programs Loading

1. right click on the icon/shortcut related to the programs.
2. properties
3. on 'target', add "/prefetch:1" on the last sentence.
4. click "Ok"

J. speed your computer Shutdown

1. Start>Run
2. 'Regedit'>OK
3. 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\'
4. go to 'WaitToKillAppTimeout'
5. right click and choose modify
6. change the value into '1000'
7. click 'OK'
8. go to 'HungAppTimeout'
9. right click and choose modify
10. change the value into '1000'
11. click 'OK'
12. 'HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop' go to WaitToKillAppTimeout'
13. right click dan pilih modify
15. change the value > '1000'
16. click 'OK'
17.'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\'go to 'WaitToKillServiceTimeout'
18. right click dan pilih modify
19. change the value > '1000'
20. click 'OK'


These tips will give your computer some boost, these will free your computer
from unneeded tasks that are slowing your computer performance.


A.Deleting Prefetch Files to increasing Windows Performance
by deleting the content of the directory, windows will get some boost
prefetch files are saved in a directory that are consist of unneeded links.
those links, gradually will slow your computer down

go to c:windows/prefetch, (and clean the prefetch files)
clean the prefetch files by 2-3 times per week.

B.Disable Prefetch for RAM in 256MB and less

Disable Prefetch
1. start>run>regedit
2.[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnablePrefetcher];
3. Double click > 0 for disable.
4. reboot.

C.Deleting some fonts
in booting, windows loads each fonts that are installed in windows,if you are not a designer
,ofcourse you use only standard fonts, not all kinds of fonts.
soo. .move those fonts in other folder.

1. Make a new foler
2. Go to "Fonts" in Control Panel.
3. Drag fonts that are going to be moved.
4. Move to the new folder.
5. Reboot.

D.Optimizing windows Xp by resetting Prefetcher

1. start>run>regedit
2.[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnablePrefetcher]
3. there are three options. ,they are 0-Disable, 1-App launch prefetch, 2-Boot Prefetch, 3-Both (choose "3").
4. reboot.
this will speed booting and program loading.

E.Memory Tweaking
this Tweaking installation is suggested to the computer with memory capacity up 512MB.
1.start > run > regedit
2.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management
a.DisablePagingExecutive -double click,insert decimal 1 -
b.LargeSystemCache -double click,insert decimal 1

F.Deleting Windows XP Icon Cache

by deleting Iconchace.db in directory (/Documents) and (Settings/Username/Local Settings/Application Data).
that's gonna boost your windows too. .
